A locked copy nobody can delete
Your existing backup, copied to a second US region and locked.
- Term
- Month to month
- Price, indicative
- From $15 per TB per month
CISA’s #StopRansomware Guide warns that “many ransomware variants attempt to find and subsequently delete or encrypt accessible backups.” This plan keeps one copy locked so nobody can delete it, including us.
How the locked copy starts
- Day 1
Map what you have
We list your NAS shares and backup sets, their size, and how long each version must stay locked.
- Days 2 to 4
Connect the source
We connect your NAS or backup software to an encrypted store in a second US region.
- Days 5 to 9
Seed the first copy
The first full copy travels over your internet line, or on an encrypted drive we ship.
- Day 10
Prove the lock
We try to delete a locked version in front of you, watch it refuse, then restore a folder.
- Every night
Lock the changes
Only changed data travels each night, and every new version is locked for 30 days.
What you receive
- Who it is for
- Businesses that already back up to a NAS or appliance
- Format
- Remote setup, nightly copy to a second US region
- A nightly copy of your NAS or backup set in a second US region
- Every version locked for 30 days by default, or for up to 1 year
- At least 500 miles between that region and our primary one
- The option to hold your own encryption key
- AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS in transit
- A one-page monthly report of what was copied, locked and checked
Is this the right plan?
Right for you if
- You already back up to a NAS or a local appliance in the office
- Every copy you have sits in the same building as the originals
- Your insurer or IT provider has asked for an immutable or offline copy
- You want to hold the encryption key yourself
Look elsewhere if
- You have no backup yet; the Server Backup plan already includes a locked copy
- You need everyday restores in minutes; keep a local copy for those
- Your copies must be kept outside the US; we store in US regions only
Example: ransomware reaches the NAS
A 35-person metal fabrication shop backs up its file server and job costing to a NAS in the same rack. In week 1 we map both and start a locked copy in a second region. On day 10, deleting a locked version fails, as it should. In October, ransomware encrypts the server and the NAS. We restore the night-before locked versions onto clean hardware, job costing first.
Immutable Offsite Copy questions, answered
What does immutable backup mean?
It means each version is locked for a set time, and nobody can change or delete it until the lock expires: not you, not someone holding your passwords, and not our engineers. Locks run 30 days by default and can be set for up to 1 year. A longer lock keeps more versions, so it stores more data.
Can ransomware reach an immutable copy?
It can reach the systems that send the copy, but it cannot change versions that are already locked. If ransomware encrypts your NAS, the encrypted files arrive as new versions, and the clean versions from before stay locked. We then restore from the last version taken before the encryption began.
How is this different from Server Backup?
Server Backup copies your servers for you, and a locked copy is part of it. Immutable Offsite Copy is for businesses that already run their own NAS or local backup and only need a locked copy far away. If you have no backup today, the Server Backup plan is usually the better place to start.
How is the price per TB measured?
We bill $15 per TB per month on the data stored in the locked copy, after deduplication and compression, measured once a month. Longer locks hold more versions, so storage grows with them. The monthly report shows the stored size before the invoice does, so the bill never changes without warning.
How fast can we restore from the offsite copy?
A single file or folder comes back within 1 business hour of your email, as a target. A full NAS of several terabytes depends on your internet line, so for large restores we can ship the data on an encrypted drive instead, which is often faster than downloading it.
